Police say Elliot Rodger the grandson of Hale born photojournalist George Rodger went on oakleys for cheap a stabbing and shooting rampage across the California college town of Isla Vista. Rodger, 22, who had Asperger's syndrome, then apparently shot and killed himself inside the black BMW he used in the violence. Investigators were analysing a YouTube video in which a young man who identifies himself as Elliot Rodger sits in a car and looks at the camera, laughing often, and says he is going to take his revenge against humanity. In the seven minute video, he speaks to the camera in a car and says that he will have his "retribution against humanity" after suffering years of "loneliness, rejection and unfulfilled desires, all because girls have never been attracted to me". Rodger, the son of Hunger Games assistant movie director Peter Rodger, goes on to say that at 22 he is still a virgin, has "never even kissed a girl", and cannot understand why women go for other "obnoxious men" and "brutes". Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown "It's obviously the work of a madman." Police described how Rodger went from one location to another, opening fire on random people and exchanging fire with police before he crashed his BMW. Sheriff Brown said Rodger had more than 400 rounds of unspent ammunition in the car. The killer is the grandson of legendary photojournalist George Rodger, originally from Hale, who went on to become an internationally renowned photographer for his pictures chronicling the Second World War and conflicts in Africa. He later settled in the Kent area and died in 1995. His widow Lois, 89, said her grandson was "a very disturbed boy". She added: "This is just one of those very tragic things.
It's a very difficult time."
