At least one went against the flow President Barack Obama.
They are opposed to a pipeline that would transport crude oil from northern Alberta's oilsands to Texas. The letter says, in part: "We urge you to say 'no' to the plan proposed by the Canadian based company TransCanada to build the Keystone XL, and to turn your attention back to okle supporting renewable sources of energy and clean transportation solutions." The letter implies that research into alternative energy has ceased, which it hasn't. But the world can't come to a standstill waiting for an unlikely breakthrough. arnette It appears that the only impetus for the laureates' opposition came from environmental groups who asked them nicely to sign the letter. And having been presented with an opportunity for some good, politically correct press, each of them got on the bandwagon. One laureate only one abstained. Wangari Maathai of Kenya, a member of the Nobel Women's Initiative who won the award in 2004, is reported to have responded that she didn't think she knew enough about the issue to take a public stand. Her singular position is of particular note considering Maathai is an environmental as well as political activist. She received much of her extensive education in the United States and founded the environmental Green Belt Movement almost 40 years ago. Part of the reason she received the Nobel Peace Prize was for her many oakley con contributions to sustainable development. Her credentials for speaking out on environmental issues greatly overshadow the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and their lesser known fellows. Yet she alone stood against the inherent falsehoods of political correctness. State Department's environmental analysis found the pipeline's route would disturb the least amount of land of any of the available routes. It also concluded the Keystone pipeline would be built to a higher degree of safety than previous pipelines. Further, thanks to ongoing technological improvements, the contents pumped oakley eyeglasses through the pipeline would have characteristics that reduce corrosion.
But all that, while relevant, is somewhat beside the point, which is that nine Nobel laureates are so bent on political correctness that they are willing to oppose something that will serve the needs of millions of people, even though they likely know little or nothing about it. One a woman in distant Kenya was willing to go against the flow. We say good on her.
