Area native found inspiration in designing Dodge Avenger A cool pair of sunglasses carried over into the appearance of the PolitiFact New YorkTV and MediaWeatherEditorialsLetters to the EditorAdam ZyglisStateWhen Ryan Nagode was in Detroit for the North American International Auto Show, he spotted an enormous poster for the 2008 Dodge Avenger.
As if he needed confirmation, the point was driven home: this new car really was more than just a design project. Showtime had arrived. The 1998 East Aurora High School graduate was the exterior designer for the new mid size sedan. Nagode (pronounced na GODY) had joined Chrysler only a few years ago out of design school, and now he was on the front lines of the vehicle's launch.Helping create the Avenger was both thrilling and educational for the 26 year old. He watched as some of his ideas progressed from sketches on his pad all the way into elements of a production vehicle, and he learned how an automaker's departments collaborate to bring a design to life. For Nagode, it was satisfying to see the real thing emerge for the first time, ready to park in a buyer's driveway."Up until you literally have a car on the road, it's an enhanced version of what you do in school," he said. After finishing high school, Nagode knew he wanted to pursue art oakley authorized dealers online and design, so he enrolled in the Cleveland Institute of Art. His father, Larry, had attended the same school and is now a toy designer for Fisher Price.During his five years at the institute, Ryan Nagode focused on industrial design and had some internships. He had a good experience with General Motors, so he focused on the auto industry when he graduated. oakley eye frames Nagode was hired by Chrysler in 2003, and he now lives oakley outlet coupon in West Bloomfield, Mich. The Avenger was the first car Nagode worked on. Chrysler assigned the car the mission of replacing the phased out Dodge Stratus, with an eye toward competing for customers in Europe, as well. The automaker wanted a "bold, aggressive" look for the Avenger, just the type of request that appeals to creative thinkers in a design studio.Nagode describes the early part of the design process as "constructive competition."Everybody at first tries to get out their ideas," he said. Those ideas can come from sunglasses outlet oakley anywhere. Nagode found inspiration in a cool pair of Oakley sunglasses he owned."They had some attitude to them," he said. That look carried over into the "wraparound" appearance of the Avenger's grille.Working as a designer is hardly an insular job, as Nagode discovered. He has contact with lots of co workers in an average day, as the design and engineering of a vehicle take shape. Nagode said he has learned the value of that cooperation."You really have to have fun at first and be good at going to meetings and listening to people and their ideas, because that's the only way for what you did up front to go all the way through," he said.
Sometimes his job takes him far from a design studio. Last fall, he attended the Paris Auto Show for the unveiling of the Avenger concept car to the media."You watch the reveal right in front of you and, boom, you've got people left and right of you asking you questions, half of them in another language," he said.
